Pillows & Blankets

I'm a social geography student from Paris, and a contributor for a new blog dedicated to pop culture & intersectional feminism called Critical Writ. I'm particularly interested in lesbian fiction of every genre.

I have a preference for romance & Fantasy/sci-fi, and will pay a lot of attention to gender roles, healthy/unhealthy relationships and consent in stories I read.

The Sweet Scent of Blood

The Sweet Scent of Blood - Suzanne McLeod One day I will try to write something about how utterly perplexed I am that vampire stories seem to be home for the creepiest rapey abusive behaviors. The intrigue is good thus far I guess, apart from some strange situations that do stretch my willingness to quell my disbelief. Still, I cannot take my mind off the abusive, sexually harassing sack of filth the hero's love interest is. Is there anything sexy about a walking innuendo oblivious of private space? I'm genuinely wondering.

Remember people, fantasizing about passing out in the streets and waking up naked in your bed with your strictly professional coworker is okay, but you really should not try making it reality outside of a controlled bdsm relationship with consent and safety.

Ah, hetero romance.

Mark of the Demon

Mark of the Demon - Diana Rowland What is it with PR/UF fantasy that stars terrifyingly rapey or creepy relationships? Sorry, I'm put off by "love interests" being rapists.
